The NFL Foundation, alongside partners like Gatorade, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), the Korey Stringer Institute (KSI), and the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society (PFATS), initiated a pilot program. This program, an extension of earlier athletic trainer initiatives, provides funding to public high schools with football programs that have limited or no access to an athletic trainer.
The NFL Foundation offers up to 150 grants to high schools, each worth $50,000 over three years to fund an athletic training program. The exact number of grants given is determined by a review panel.
We've been lucky to receive grant support from the NFL and 49ers foundations to supply athletic trainers and equipment to local high schools, including Wilcox, San Jose, and Santa Clara High Schools. This grant supports the health, safety, and wellness of athletes, youth football, and the communities that support our game, enabling us to provide local Bay Area athletes with the resources they need to play a safer game.
